The Room Community Guidelines
The Room is a private community for marketing leaders, partners, and speakers who’ve spent time with us in person. The app is an extension of that. A place to keep the conversations going between events. These guidelines exist so the app stays the kind of place you actually want to be: candid, generous, free of pitches, and made up of people who treat each other like the colleagues they are.
Who’s here
Everyone in The Room app has been admitted personally. Most members joined through an event (a summit, a dinner, a soirée). Some are partners who underwrite our work. Nobody self-registered. That’s the whole point.
What this room is for
Helping each other. Asking the questions you can’t ask in your own LinkedIn feed. Sharing wins, losses, and things you’re working through. Introducing members to each other when it would help. Sitting in on conversations that are happening even when you don’t have something to add. That’s a feature, not a problem.
What this room is not for
Selling. The Room is not a sales channel. Cold outreach, demo asks, pricing conversations, and pitches get flagged and removed. Any version of these, even gentle ones. If you’re a partner, you contribute by being generous and useful. The relationships that matter happen at the events.
Promoting outside agendas. Pulling threads to your podcast, newsletter, conference, or paid program isn’t what this space is for.
Breaking confidentiality. Conversations here run on Chatham House rules. Share what was said; don’t share who said it. Don’t screenshot threads or forward DMs outside the app. If you’d want a member to trust you in person, treat their words here with that same trust.
Misrepresenting yourself. Use your real identity, real role, and real company. Don’t impersonate other members or join under an alias.
Harassment, discrimination, or personal attacks. The standard rules apply here too, just in a higher-trust setting.
Reporting concerns
Every post and DM has a “Flag” option (long-press, then choose Flag…). Flagging sends the item to The Room’s community team. You can also block another member from Settings, then Blocked members. They won’t be told, and they won’t be able to DM you or appear in your directory.
We review every flag personally. Typical response: within 24-48 hours on weekdays.
What happens after a report
Three flags on the same member within 7 days auto-locks the account pending our review. This prevents a single bad pattern from continuing while we look at it. Outside of auto-lock, our response ladder looks like this:
- First serious concern: a direct conversation with the member.
- Repeat or severe: the account is paused. Profile retained, no posting, no DMs.
- Continued or egregious: the account is removed entirely.
We err on the side of protecting the conversation. We’d rather lose a member than degrade the trust everyone else is here for.

Changes to these guidelines
We’ll update this page as the community grows and we learn what works. Material changes will be announced in-app.
